Plant Nutrition Plants use inorganic minerals for nutrition, whether grown in the field or in a container. Complex interactions involving weathering of rock minerals, decaying organic matter, animals, and microbes take place to form inorganic minerals in soil. Roots absorb mineral nutrients as ions in soil water. Many factors influence nutrient uptake for plants. Ions can be readily available to roots or could be "tied up" by other elements or the soil itself. Soil too high in pH (alkaline) or too low (acid) makes minerals unavailable to plants.                                                 Source: The Orchid House   OMRI - The Organic Materials Review Institute is best known for its work as an independent nonprofit certifying the compliance of fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs to organic agriculture, OMRI received final notice of ISO-65 accreditation for its product certifications at the end of January 2008.

Pesticide Use

We have tried many different pesticides, and the reality of the situation is that most of the time, cleanliness was the issue and persistence was the cure. Stay clean!!

Although many did work, more applications were needed then indicated on the instructions. Many pesticides used often are not good for the health of the plant or the person consuming it. We’ve opted to reccomend being as organic as possible without cutting on efficiency.

Mold issues are best treated with sulphur, sold in dust or with a burner for the larger grow rooms. We wouldn’t recommend any other product for this issue.

Spider mites, aphids, thrips, and fruit flies are best treated with sticky strips (flying insects) and Pyrethrins. The pyrethrins are a pair of natural organic compound that have potent insecticidal activity. Although technically you can spray organic pesticides on consumable plant life right up to a week before harvest, we would not recommend using any foliar spray after week 3 of blooming cycle, this activity may create fruit rot.

For spider mites, remove heavily infected leaves and remember to re-apply approx. a week later (read label) We like to use organic because often a third application a week after the second is necessary for a full eradication.

Nutrient Availability 

A wide variety of nutrients are available on the market today and many make the same claim yet use different sources of ingredients.

Although we have not used all of the displayed nutrient products The Garden Shed is currently supporting, we have locally tried more then a few for truth to there claim. Coupled with our research indicating these companies carry a reputation above others in the industry, we are confident in the satisfaction of our products.

We are convinced that when used properly these nutrients will produce the outcome desired. From beginner to mad scientist, the variety we are presenting gives the consumer many different options, which are made to either outperform yourself, your friends, or creating that craving consistency.
