There are many nutrient additives and supplements that are made of compounds not considered necessary for plant life. “A more holistic approach to plant nutrition would not be limited to nutrients essential to survival but would include mineral elements at levels beneficial for optimum growth. With developments in analytical chemistry and the ability to eliminate contaminants in nutrient cultures, the list of essential elements may well increase in the future.” Source: The Orchid House
When using Nutrient Additives and Supplements it is crucial you look at what is already in your Base Nutrient since you may inadvertently include too much of a particular element creating a lock-up or toxicity of the nutrient or affect the uptake of other mineral elements. Once established that this is not the case, always restrain from using more then the recommended dose. Less is more when concentrated salts are concerned.
The water being used and the ppm/tds included is an important factor in determining what and how much nutrients you can add. Too many total dissolved solids (TDS) in the nutrient solution, especially unknown ones, create more problems then enhancements.
Ensuring fresh or enriched air, adequate lighting, a good water source, a quality nutrient base and the proper nutrient boost for excelled fruit or flower production will certainly bring success in producing optimum growth potential.
